SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

April 10–17

Spring is one of the most important times of the year for the golf course, as we focus on turf recovery and set the foundation for the season ahead. Our team has been actively completing a wide range of applications while continuing to promote healing following aerification.

We have completed our pre-emergent herbicide applications across all roughs, fairways, and fescue areas. These treatments are designed to prevent crabgrass, goosegrass, and various broadleaf weeds from establishing. In the fescue, we have also applied a plant growth regulator to help manage growth and maintain a thinner, golden-brown appearance deeper into the summer. In past seasons, peak color lasted roughly from early July through early August before declining, and this program aims to extend that window.

On Friday, April 17, we will be applying a granular fertilizer to the greens and approaches. This application will provide a significant nutrient boost, encouraging strong root development and healthy growth as we move into May.

Based on growing degree days and recent weather patterns, we are currently running approximately 10–12 days ahead of last year in terms of soil and air temperatures. As a result, we have adjusted our timing and initiated preventative pesticide applications earlier than usual. These treatments target common turf diseases such as brown patch, dollar spot, summer patch, pythium, and leaf spot. We have also made multiple preventative applications for annual bluegrass weevil and its larvae. Given our level of play and course expectations, these proactive measures are essential to maintaining high-quality playing conditions throughout the summer.

With the wall project on Hole 17 now complete, our attention will shift to the 6th green, where we will work to finish bunker construction as quickly as possible. The green itself is in excellent condition. The approach area will require one additional aerification and topdressing before the hole can be reopened. We will also be applying fertilizer and irrigation to the fescue behind the green to encourage establishment and growth.

We appreciate your continued support and look forward to providing excellent conditions as the season progresses.
